My husband and I celebrated 10 years of marriage earlier this year. One of my favorite scenes from our wedding day was taken in the moments following our “cutting the cake” ceremony. In it, we’re about to give each other a taste of the wedding cake and in the background, you can see the “starry night sky” created by our beautiful lights strung in the reception room where we were celebrated our first day together as husband and wife.

The other day I was driving through Denver and I looked up to see a similar “starry sky” in the middle of the day.
The common element with my wedding day “starry night sky”? Lights.
#1: Update your Outdoor Dining Space with Outdoor Lighting
Now I thought I might have some trouble getting the starry night sky I was looking for, but as it turns out, it’s incredibly easy to recreate the effect at home using Jasco’s Enbrighten Color Changing Lights. They’re incredibly versatile and come with:
- Built in timer
- Linkable up to 750 feet
- Change on light at a time or 2 colors simultaneously
- Dimmable
Plus, they’re very easy to install. Just above each light, there is a place to hold the light cord. You can see the hole for threading onto a nail or hook at the top of the light in the photo below.
These are not normal light bulbs. The shatterproof “bulb” feels like a heavy clear acrylic and inside it has LED filament. The lights can change colors with the push of a button and you can set up the lights to “travel” down the line with changing colors OR create a duo of colors to facilitate a season ready lighting decoration. For example, at Christmas, you could select alternating red and green lights.

#2: Provide Comfortable Seating
Before this mini deck remodel, there was nowhere to sit. We could not create crafts outside, nor could we enjoy a meal outdoors.
Since the days are longer and warmer, I wanted to create a space with the opportunity to provide outdoor dining. I found a durable, affordable outdoor dining table and chairs, and my entire family loves the new outdoor seating.
Now we have a space to sit and eat or use for creating crafts outdoors. The space is prettiest at dusk or just before the sun comes up. The Enbrighten Seasons Color Changing Café Lights create an extra warmth and glow around the seating area.
#3: Make it Easy to Use
One of the things I love about our decision to install outdoor lighting is how easy it is to use when you put the lights on a timer. Simply plug your lights into the timer, set the current time, and choose your on and off times with the push of a button.
Even with the myTouchSmart Timer plugged in, you can still use the remote control to change the color or mode of the lights as you normally would.
I set our lights to go just before dusk and off shortly after bedtime. This makes it so easy to enjoy the lights during nighttime hours.

With new seating and colorful outdoor lighting, our family is enjoying our outdoor space more than ever. We even hosted a few family members out of the deck for an afternoon of sharing stories and building bridges between cousins.
