I’ve been looking for ideas online to find ways to keep my bright two-year-old engaged in learning and I’ve come across some excellent tools.
I absolutely love this DVD, I purchased it at Walmart. It focuses on the sounds letters make. My big boy loves watching Penny (the hamster) and Scout (a puppy) on their adventures to learn the names and sounds of some new animals from A to Z. Phonics is the start to reading – helping little ones sound out letters so they can learn to read.
He can sing the entire ABCs and actually did it upon receipt of this alphabet page I created from foam letters I also purchased at Walmart.
Using the same foam letters I also did a page with his name. He recognizes almost all of the letters of the alphabet now.

To reinforce the alphabet theme I found an awesome floor mat that has all the letters and numbers 0-9. He is so creative, he plays with them by putting them down the slide or through the basketball hoop of his new Little Tykes fold-n-play slide. We purchased all of these items on consignment at a JBF sale.
I also love the Tot School hosted at http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/TotSchool.html, she has excellent tools for tots including planning and assessment for homeschooling moms and tons of FREE printables. She is very creative and has a true heart for teaching her children and helping others to do the same.
From the Tot School Rainbows Pack, we’ve been working on Rainbows to help our big boy learn his colors. In the picture above he is working on a mini-book of Noah’s Ark which talks about how Noah obeyed God and the rainbow is God’s promise to us to never flood the Earth again. You could easily spend hours downloading free printables from this site. It’s a great way to be inspired and get creative doing your own “Tot School” at home.
Even our baby boy enjoys the slide and we look forward to the two boys playing together and learning together for many years to come.
