Readers, I have a confession to make, I have a brown thumb. When I moved from the sunshine state to the Rocky Mountains I was humbled to learn that it’s not easy to grow things in a dry climate at high altitude. My attempts at growing green have led to humbling experiences of plants turning brown.
Well, with Earth Month right around the corner (it starts in April) and spring in the air, I’ve decided to try again. I’ve always wanted to have an herb garden, and this week I picked up a few herbs and I’m going to see if I can get them to grow.
Earth Day is on Aril 22nd this year, and it presents a wonderful opportunity to teach children about taking care of the environment and why it is so important. I’m going to have my boys help me water my herbs and we’re going to study ways to be more environmentally responsible. To facilitate learning, I’ve created a FREE 30 page printable pack for children with worksheets, coloring, signage, a recycling activity, and more to help parents and/or teachers teach kids about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. The FREE printable pack is included at the end of this post.
All Natural Tom’s of Maine
My focus this year for Earth Month will not only be growing fresh herbs, I’m teaching my boys about other ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. One of the ways we reduce the use of chemicals in our home is in our selection of hygiene products. I started using Tom’s of Maine products over a decade ago when I learned they are are made with no artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, or preservatives.
I want to teach my boys about products that are more environmentally friendly as part of our Earth Day lesson so my boys will be brushing with Tom’s of Maine Silly Strawberry™ Fluoride Toothpaste while I continue my use of Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Apricot Deodorant. I’m also going to try out one of the Tom’s of Maine toothpastes – I picked up two, Tom’s of Maine Antiplaque & Whitening Peppermint Fluoride Free Toothpaste, and Tom’s of Maine Whole Care® Peppermint and Spearmint Fluoride Toothpaste.

Sort and Recycle Kid’s Activity
In addition to talking with my children about how reducing the use of chemicals in everyday items helps both our bodies and the environment, we practiced recycling and working through some of the free printable worksheets on “Which things can be recycled”, and “Ways to conserve energy” included in the FREE 30 Page Printable Earth Day Activity Pack for kids.
My boys had a great time finding the right bin for each of the bottles, cans, and pieces of paper I gave them so we could practice sorting recyclable items.
FREE Earth Day Coloring Worksheets
My eldest loves coloring and he liked being able to follow the colorful Earth Day mini-posters in the printable pack when picking out colored markers for coloring.
